How to Apply

The Trustees welcome applications from individuals and organisations that live or are based within the area of benefit, which is the Parish of West Hackney.

West Hackney Parochial Charity have two grant types:-

Current Funding Priorities
The Trustees consider grant applications for purposes that come under the Charity's objects, and current funding priorities which are:

  • to relieve individual or general need, hardship or distress;
  • education and training opportunities for young people.

Applications from individuals

You may apply for household items, travel costs or education but support will not be given for second or Masters degrees. Typically grants to individuals will be for a maximum of £1,000.

The individual must reside within the parish of West Hackney.

Priority will be given to those in hardship or distress.

Please include two confirmations of address such as copies of your utility bill, benefits letter or tenancy agreement

If you are unable to complete the form yourself, another person may apply on your behalf.

Soon after the Trustees' meeting, you will be informed of their decision. Your application may be supported in full or in part, rejected, or deferred till the next meeting.

Project grants
These are usually one-off grants for projects that are in line with the funding priorities of the charity.

Grants of this type will usually be for a maximum of £5,000.

In order to be eligible the organisation must either be a registered charity or have exempt status and operate (although not exclusively) in the parish of West Hackney.

Strategic grants
These grants are set up to support local key partner organisations that are managed and based in the parish of West Hackney and have a strong volunteer base.

Suitable organisations are usually sought proactively by the Trustees and grants typically will be for up to £15,000 per year and for more than one year.

Organisations may apply to have their core costs supported by this type of grant.

All grants
We will acknowledge all application forms received and, we will let you know if we need any further information. A Trustee or a representative from the charity may contact and visit you to discuss your application.

The Trustees reserve the right to contact one, or both of your referees.

If you have a deadline to meet, you should allow at least six months between submitting your initial application and the deadline.

If you are unable to complete the form yourself, another person may apply on your behalf.

Soon after the Trustees' meeting, you will be informed of their decision. Your application may be supported in full or in part, rejected, or deferred until the next meeting.

If applications are successful, payments will be made after the relevent meeting and once essential administration has been completed. Payments are usually made by cheque.

If you are unable to print out an application form, please contact us and we will send you a copy by post.

Please note that, if you are successful, your grant may be subject to certain conditions which you must agree to before accepting the grant. Other conditions, specific to your grant, may also be attached. Any inaccurate disclosure or failure to disclose relevant information requested, will be grounds to seek repayment of any grant made.

Please note that it can sometimes take up to nine months for applications to be fully assessed, although 95% of applications are resolved during the Trustees' meeting at their first presentation. Applicants will be informed of the Trustees' decision as soon as possible after that time.

What we expect in return

Feedback at nine months to say how far you have got with spending the grant and what has been achieved. If you have not yet spent the grant, please explain and tell us what you are planning.
